SEND Voices Wokingham (SVW) is the Department for Education (DfE) recognised independent parent carer forum for Wokingham Borough. We are a charity dedicated to ensuring that families of children with disabilities and additional needs can fully participate in shaping and developing services within Wokingham Borough.

SVW are excited to offer a new opportunity for an Engagement Officer to join our team and play a crucial role in engaging with SEND families to understand what is working and where things can be improved to feed into the SEND Reform and other improvement plans in the Borough. The Engagement Officer will also work to build stronger relationships between families, schools, and support services.

Salary

£15.60 per hour + work-related mileage expenses reimbursed

Location

Home based, with travel to schools and venues across the Wokingham Borough

Hours

15 hours/week term-time only working, agreed in negotiation.

Fixed 1 year term with the possibility of extension (funding permitting).

Key Responsibilities

  • Empower Parent Carers: Establish and facilitate Parent Carer Engagement Groups.
  • Strengthen Parent-School Collaboration: Working with school leadership to improve coproduction with SEND families and strengthen relationships.
  • Represent the voice of SEND families: Help identify key priorities and concerns raised by parents and carers of children with additional needs and SEND.
  • Drive Positive Change: Support the development of strategies that improve inclusion, communication, and support for SEND students.
  • Gather & Share Insights: Collect feedback from parent groups and ensure their voices are represented in school and local authority and health discussions.
  • Support Families: Signpost parents and carers to relevant information, so that they can engage effectively with health, education, and social care services.

Due to the nature of the project, this role will include organising and attending parent carer groups in schools to coincide with the start or end of the school day along with other SVW parent carer engagement events. The administrative side of this role is more flexible, to suit parent carers' commitments and responsibilities. There will also be the requirement to host some evening sessions for working families who cannot attend in-person day-time.
